I was in New Haven Connecticut in early September of 1984 when I picked up a local paper that stated that the Texas Troubadour Ernest Tubb had passed away.I thought of my dad right away.He was a big Ernest Tubb fan and I could hear him singing "Walking the Floor Over You"as he did many times when I was a boy.As fate would have it I would be in Nashville just a few weeks later for the Grande Ole Opry's 59th Birthday Celebration.While in Nashville I had the unique opportunity to appear on the Ernest Tubb Midnite Jamboree live on WSM following the Grande Ole Opry broadcast. It was such an honor to appear on the show and I dedicated a song to his son Justin Tubb who was taking the loss of his father, a true legend in county music,pretty rough.I sang Merle Haggard's "Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink",it seemed appropriate at the time.This coming Sunday February 9th will mark Ernest Tubb's 100th birthday,long live the music of the legendary Texas Troubadour, we are still "Walking the Floor Over You".
